The 22SI™ is a brush type alternator for medium and heavy duty applications with output up to 150 amps and offered in a J180 and pad mounting configurations.
The 23SI™ is a brushless alternator designed for construction, industrial, medium or heavy duty applications. The 23SI is offered in 12 volt outputs up to 145 Amps and 24 volt up to 70 Amps. The 23SI is available in J180 and pad mounting configurations.
The 24SI brush style alternators are designed with dual internal fans which provide maximum cooling technology, improves the operating efficiency and durability of the unit. The 24SI is offered in 12 volt models with output up to 160 Amps and 24 volt models up to 70 amps. The 24SI is available in J180 or pad mounting configurations.
The 28SI high output alternator was designed to address vehicle applications that require higher electrical output, but also want lower weight, improved temperature capability, and fuel savings. Vehicles, such as school buses, not using a premium high output alternator will likely experience premature failures due to high under-hood engine temperatures. The 28SI brush style alternators are designed with dual internal fans which provide maximum cooling technology, improves the operating efficiency and durability of the unit. The 28SI comes standard with Remote Sense and is available in outputs ranging from 160 to 200 amps. The 28SI is available in short J180 hinge, long J180 hinge, and pad mounting configurations.
The 33SI is a heavy duty brushless alternator that provides more output and service life for today’s diesel powered vehicles with large electrical load requirements. With the increased demand for extended service life products, Delco Remy’s Brushless Alternators are quickly becoming the standard of the industry. The 33SI is offered in 12 volt and 24 volt models with a J180 hinge mount.
The Delco Remy 34SI is a brushless alternator designed for medium and heavy duty applications and performs well in high vibration applications generating the standard of quality and performance. The absence of moving electrical connections eliminates sparks. The 34SI has excellent radio frequency interference (RFI) suppression with very little parasitic draw and a low turn-on speed. A special coating protects the electronics from dirt, road salt and other corrosives.
The Delco Remy 35SI heavy duty alternator, designed for high-underhood-temperature EGR and ACERT* engines, features heat dissipating radiant vents and thermally tolerant internal components that ensure high output in environments up to 105°C / 221°F. The 35SI features a brushless design with fewer moving parts and internal connections, resulting in consistently superior performance and contamination resistance and longer product life compared to traditional brush-type alternators.
The 38SI™ is a durable brushless model available in an output rating of 215 Amps. Its efficiency rating is best-in-class. High efficiency translates to less engine horsepower requirements, resulting in substantial fuel savings. The premium brushless design of the Delco Remy 38SI provides added durability and life of the alternator. Remote sense is standard on the Delco Remy 38SI.
A major fleet reported to us that their Delco Remy Alternators equipped with Remote Sense reduced battery charge time by 50% and decreased battery warranty claims by 30%. Remote Sense utilizes a second wire that reads the actual voltage at the battery and signals the alternator to increase its voltage output to compensate for the voltage drop, ensuring a constant 14 volts at the battery. The additional voltage forces the current into the battery faster, bringing it to a full state of charge in half the time.
Remote Sense is ideal for any commercial vehicle that makes frequent stops including:
Due to resistance in charging cables caused by environmental factors and other conditions, the voltage from the alternator drops by the time it reaches the battery. Just because the alternator is sending 14 volts doesn’t mean that the battery is receiving 14 volts. That’s why we’ve included Remote Sense on all premium models. With Remote Sense, a second wire reads the actual voltage at the battery and signals the alternator to increase its voltage output to compensate for voltage drop, ensuring a constant 14 volts at the battery. Research has shown that an increase of just ½ volt, when needed, can cut the battery charge time in half. At the end of the day, it can make the difference between batteries that are fully charged and those that aren’t.
Remote Sense Terminal Monitors system voltage at the batteries or a common distribution point. The Remote Sense terminal is identified with a “Remote Sense” label on the back cover plate or an “S” Terminal. Notice! Do not connect anything but the Remote Sense line to this terminal. • If installing an alternator with Remote Sense capabilities in a vehicle that does not have a Remote Sense line, connect a fused (5 Amp) insulated wire from the Alternator Remote Sense terminal to the positive (+) battery terminal or the common distribution point such as the starter solenoid battery (+) terminal. Use a #16 gauge red insulated wire, preferably with a 1/4” ID Convoluted Polyethylene Conduit. Also install a standard inline fuse holder with a protective cap. Use a low voltage (5 Amp) automotive standard blade style fuse. Connection of the Remote Sense terminal is best for optimum performance; however, the alternator will function without Remote Sense connected. • If installing a non-Remote Sense alternator in a vehicle that has a Remote Sense line, disconnect and secure the wire from the battery. • Only connect the Remote Sense line to the Remote Sense terminal. The “R” and “I” Terminals are not the Remote Sense Terminal!
Remote Sense is a feature available on Delco Remy alternator models: 35SI™, 36SI™, and standard on the high output alternator models 28SI™, 38SI™, 40SI™, and 55SI™.
Delco Remy Heavy Duty Brushless Alternators have fewer moving parts. Fewer moving parts mean less wear on the alternator. What you end up with is longer life, not to mention the best warranty in the industry to back it. Alternators pull air through from the back to the front in order to cool the internal electronics. This causes dust to enter into the alternator. With a brushless alternator, there are no issues of dust hanging up brushes and causing early failure. Without brushes, there are 13 fewer moving parts, eliminating components that wear out, while extending overall products life. All major internal components that carry current such as a field coil, regulator, bridge, connectors, and stator, are stationary components and more resistant to vibration and debris. Increasing alternator efficiency can, and will measurably reduce diesel fuel costs. Electrical power on a heavy duty truck is not free. It comes as a direct result of consuming fuel within the engine to drive the alternator. Go to Fuel Economy Calculator
