WWE Raw ended on a shocking note as Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah stunned fans by capturing the Women’s Tag Team Championships.
The duo – who beat the teams of Shotzi and Xia Li, and Sonya Deville and Natalya to reach the final of the recent tournament – overcame firm favourites Dakota Kai and IYO SKY to claim the vacant titles previously held by Sasha Banks and Naomi.
The championships were vacated after Banks and Naomi walked out of a Raw taping back in May, and some fans had expected them to return on Monday night amid reports they have re-signed since Triple H took over as head of creative and talent relations.
There was no sign of them on the show though, although the titles were still put in a prominent spot with the final landing the main event spot.
Like SmackDown on Friday, Raquel shone for her team and did the heavy lifting – literally and figuratively – in a solid match that brought the fans into the action more as it went on.
Bayley tried to get involved only to be chased off by Asuka, Alexa Bliss and Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair, which gave Aliyah the chance to slip into the ring to score a roll-up win.
The result left viewers baffled, particularly as the show ended with the new champs celebrating without any extra drama – although there could be more to come after it emerged Dakota Kai was pinned without being the legal woman.
One option could be Banks and Naomi returning to reclaim the gold at, say, Clash At The Castle this weekend, although we’ll have to wait and see how things unfold.
The show kicked off with a great match which saw The Judgment day’s Damian Priest and Finn Balor beat Dolph Ziggler and AJ Styles.
Edge came down after the bell to confront his rivals, before Rey and Dominik Mysterio attacked from behind with kendo sticks, although Dom wouldn’t hit Rhea Ripley, and she took the weapon from him.
Priest and Balor will face Edge and Rey in Cardiff this weekend, and it’ll be interesting to see what role Dominik plays.
Asuka, Bliss and Belair built momentum before their match with Sky, Kai and Bayley this weekend as they made quick work of three local talents.
Kurt Angle made his return in front of his hometown crowd, only to be interrupted by Alpha Academy’s Chad Gable and Otis, with the former talking about idolising the Hall of Famer before things turned sour.
Street Profits challenged Alpha Academy to a match, with Gable adding the stipulation that Angle would join his team if they won – which wasn’t the case, with Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford winning a thoroughly entertaining bout between four fantastic performers.
There was plenty of drama between Matt Riddle and Seth Rollins during the show, firstly as footage aired showing them brawling in the parking lot before the show.
They then had a split screen interview hyping their match at Clash At The Castle, and things got very intense with Rollins bringing up his rival’s real life divorce, while the Original Bro dropped some F-bombs.
The Miz – still suffering some trauma after he was abducted by Dexter Lumis last week – refused to say what happened, but didn’t look good as he came to face Bobby Lashley.
The A-Lister was clearly distracted looking for Lumis, who did appear in the crowd causing a distraction as Lashley won win the Hurt Lock.
Miz went to his car after the match, but Lumis was hiding in the backseat.
A row in the ring between The Usos, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens led to a match of the night effort from KO and Jey Uso after he appealed to Zayn’s good side.
The Usos tried to convince Zayn to grab a chair, but he clearly had second thoughts and didn’t want to hit his longtime friend Owens.
This perfect bit of storytelling gave KO an opening, and he hit Jey with a Stunner to pick up a win.

In an ideal world, this will all lead to KO and Sami teaming up and beating The Usos, to finally win tag team gold in WWE and add another fantastic chapter to their story.
